Hi, my name is Ben Gidney and you may have found me by searching Freelance Web Designer London. If so, fantastic! Because that is exactly what I do and where I do it.
I often post articles here on my news page where I like to give advice on finding web designers or designing websites, post updates on my current projects or give details about my services.
I currently work from home and at the moment I enjoy it, but it can’t last forever as we are starting a family and need more space. I do think hard about making the step from my home desk into an office desk but it’s not an overnight change. I thought I’d write down a few reasons why I haven’t yet made that step. Perhaps it’ll help me find out how I can do it!
- No Office Rent Firstly, there is no office rent to pay when I work from home. Need I explain why that is a truly amazing benefit? I’ve discovered that office space for one person can cost up to £500 per month! It’s a huge leap from paying £0 every month for work space.
- Free lunches I love a hot lunch and there is always leftovers from the night before. A cold sandwich and a packet of crisps is a miserable swap for hot lasagne, bolognaise or even cottage pie from last night.
- Free travel (or no travel) The journey from my bed to my desk is not a route covered nor charged for by Transport for London – although sometimes I can still be late! Again, from a £0 monthly overhead to possibly £200 in travel is a bit of a leap. Not to mention the lack of seats and unavoidable sweaty armpits.
OK, so why on earth would I still be thinking of moving into an office? Well, it’s hard to put my finger on it! I guess there’s just something temporary or laid back about working from home. I’m ready to make that step from ultimate working comfort to ultimate working environment. And no amount of free lunches or travel can stop me!
